Cheat Sheet: Solopreneur Coaching & Consulting

Can a solopreneur really build a coaching practice from scratch?

The most common objection I hear: “I am not qualified enough to coach.” Here is the truth: if you have achieved a result that someone else wants, you are qualified. I coached my first client at $500 when I had been a solopreneur for 6 months. He paid me because I had what he wanted: a system that worked.

Yes — I have seen more than 30 clients do it. The mistake most people make: they think they need a certification, a website, and 10 years of experience before they can coach. You need none of those. You need one thing: a result you have already produced for yourself.

Coaching as a solopreneur is simply packaging your personal transformation into a repeatable process. If you have built a $5K/mo side hustle from zero, you can coach someone else to do the same. That is your Minimum Viable Offer — see the MVO Builder for the exact pricing framework.

What coaching model works for one person?

Your first offer does not need to be perfect. A 4-call consulting pack at $500 works because it is low risk for the client and high leverage for you. Use Calendly ($0) to schedule calls, Notion ($0) for session notes, and Stripe (2.9%+$0.30) for payments. Total setup cost: $0.

Three models, ranked by leverage:

  • 4-call consulting pack ($500–$1K): Low prep, high perceived value. You diagnose their problem in call 1, design a plan in call 2, execute together in calls 3-4.
  • Done-with-you cohort ($297–$997): Group of 5-8 people, same curriculum, 4-6 weeks. Higher revenue per hour. Use Circle ($49/mo) for community.
  • High-ticket retainer ($2K–$5K/mo): Weekly 1:1 calls with reviews in between. Best for experienced coaches with a track record.

Start with the 4-call pack. Validate demand at $500 before upgrading. One client in my Business OS sold 4 packs in 2 weeks by simply DMing 20 people who followed him on Twitter.

How do you land your first 3 coaching clients?

To land your first client without a portfolio: offer 3 free 20-minute strategy calls. On each call, diagnose one specific gap and offer your paid pack as the solution. One client converted 2 out of 3 free calls into $997 clients each. That is $1,994 from 3 hours of calls.

Same playbook, every time: (1) Document your transformation publicly. Write 1 thread per week about what you did. (2) Offer 3 free strategy calls with no strings. (3) On each call, diagnose their gap and offer your pack.

Tools: Calendly (free) for booking, Stripe (2.9% + $0.30) for payments, Notion (free) for session notes and client tracking.
