My 6-Month Life Reinvention (What Actually Worked)
I tried to reinvent myself 3 times before this stuck. First attempt: bought a $400 course, printed the worksheets, never opened them. Second: announced a “90-day transformation” on LinkedIn, quit on day 12. Third: copied someone else’s morning routine for 2 weeks, felt worse. The 6-month framework below is what I actually followed when I went from burnt-out freelance writer to solopreneur with a real content business. It was not dramatic. It was compounding.
Why 6 months and not 30 days?
Because 30-day challenges are designed to sell courses, not to change behavior. Dan Koe says: “6 weeks for building something new, 6 months for a complete identity shift.” I agree. Any shorter and you do not see results — I quit every 30-day attempt. Any longer and you lose urgency — I have been “planning” my business for 3 years. Six months is the sweet spot where small daily compounding becomes visible.
What is an anti-vision and why do I need one?
Before you can build a vision, you need to know what you are escaping. Dan Koe calls this anti-vision: write down the life you absolutely do NOT want. 5 years from now, what does failure look like? For me it was: still writing $200 blog posts for clients, still saying “my business is almost ready,” still waking up at 11am with no control over my day. That picture was more motivating than any vision board. Use it as fuel, not fear.
How do you actually shift your identity in 4 weeks?
Identity is not a vision board. It is a daily filter. Week 5–8 of my reinvention, I defined the person who would achieve this: what do they do at 8am? What do they say no to? I stopped saying “I am a freelancer” and started saying “I build content systems.” That one sentence changed the offers I made, the prices I charged, and the clients I attracted. Your identity filters every decision.
Write down the person who has already achieved your reinvention:
What time do they wake up?
What is the first thing they do?
What do they say no to this week?
What is their one-sentence identity? ("I am a ___")
Start acting as if today.
What should I build and launch in months 3–4?
This is where most people stall. They have the vision, they have the identity — and they spend months 3–4 watching YouTube videos about “how to start.” No. Month 3 is about concrete output. Create your MVO. Publish your first content. Get your first paying customer. My month 3 output was a $497 consulting offer and 3 sold. Not because I was ready. Because I forced myself to ship before I felt ready.
🔥 Controversial Take
If you spend more than 8 weeks planning your reinvention, you are not reinventing — you are procrastinating. The plan is a crutch. Ship something imperfect in month 3. You will learn more from one failed launch than from 4 months of Notion templates.
How do I systemize so the business runs without me?
Months 5–6 are about automation, not more hustle. The goal: your business runs 80% on autopilot by month 6. I automated: newsletter (FluentForm + email sequences), content repurposing (one blog post → auto-tweets via n8n), and lead capture (downloadable PDF → email sequence). I still write the content. The machine distributes it.
✅ Automate Now
Email capture → sequence. Content repurposing. Scheduling. Lead magnets.
