Should a solopreneur start a podcast?
Not unless you already have a content engine running. Podcasting is 5-10 hours per episode for most solo founders. That time is better spent writing until you have an audience. The exception: being a guest on other podcasts. That takes 1 hour per appearance and builds authority fast.
I appeared on 12 podcasts in my first year. Each appearance generated 50-200 newsletter subscribers. Total time investment: 12 hours. Compare that to starting my own podcast — 200+ hours for similar growth. The math is clear. Check the Zero to 1000 guide for the full audience-building playbook.
How do you get booked as a podcast guest?
Three steps: (1) Find 20 podcasts in your niche. Listen to 1 episode each. (2) Send a personalized pitch. Mention something specific from the episode. Offer a unique angle. (3) Make it easy for the host. Provide a one-sheet with your bio, topic ideas, and recording preferences.
Tools: Calendly ($0) for scheduling. Notion ($0) for tracking pitches. Cleanfeed ($0) for remote recording. Listen to other solopreneur stories on Community & Networks to understand the format.
Write a cold email pitch template I can send to podcast hosts in my niche. My niche is [topic]. Include: subject line, personalized opener referencing their show, my unique angle, 3 suggested topic ideas, and a clear CTA to book a call.
