How I Found My Niche of One (After Chasing 6 Wrong Ones)

I spent 2023 chasing “hot niches.” AI tools. Crypto. Notion templates. Each one I picked because someone on Twitter said it was the gold rush. Each one I abandoned 6 weeks later because I had zero authority in that space and zero interest in building it. The Niche of One framework is what stopped me from chasing #7.

What is a Niche of One and why does it matter?

Dan Koe puts it simply: your niche is not a topic. It is a combination of skills, interests, and experience that only you have. I wasted 14 months trying to compete with people who had 5 years of head start in spaces I did not care about. The moment I stopped asking “what is trending” and started asking “what can only I say” — my content started getting replies instead of silence.

How do I find my three intersecting domains?

The Niche of One framework asks you to pick 3 circles:

Priority — Pays the bills. Skills the market already values. For me, that was SEO and content strategy. I had 4 years of freelance writing data to prove it.

Exciting — You love it. You’d do it for free (but you won’t). After I burned out writing “10 Best AI Tools” articles for clients, I realized the stuff I actually enjoyed writing about was business systems for solopreneurs.

Development — Helps others grow. Teaching accelerates your own mastery. Every time I helped a freelancer set up their first content machine, I learned something I could not have learned alone.

Where all 3 overlap = your content niche for the next 12 months. Mine became: SEO + solopreneur systems + creative constraints. That is the entire foundation of cheatsheet.cc.

🧩 Niche Finder Prompt
List 3 skills you are good at that other people ask you for help with.

List 3 topics you could talk about for an hour without preparation.

List 3 problems you have personally solved that others in your network still struggle with.

Circle the one skill and one topic that overlap. That is your starting point.
🤵 Coach: If you struggled to fill any of those 3 lists, you are not giving yourself enough credit. Ask a friend what they come to you for. You will be surprised.

How does Niche of One become a business offer?

Knowing your intersection is not enough. I knew mine for 3 months before I monetized it — because I was scared. The fastest path is a 4-call consulting pack at $500–$1,000. Your niche-of-one makes this offer unique: no one else has your exact combination. I started with $497 “Content Audit + 30-Day Roadmap” and sold 3 in the first week. Not because I was a guru. Because I had personally done what my clients needed done.

🎁 MVO Builder Prompt
What is the #1 problem people in my niche ask me about?

What is the fastest way I could solve that problem in 4 calls or less?

What price would feel like a no-brainer for both me and my customer?

What is the one result they get after working with me? (Put this in the title.)

How do I create content from a Niche of One?

Your content is the bridge between your niche and your audience. The formula I use: one long-form piece per week → extracted into 5 tweets, 1 thread, 1 email. Your niche-of-one gives you an endless source of unique material: your personal experience. I stopped researching “what do people want to read” and started writing about what I failed at that week. Engagement tripled.

📝 Daily Content Prompt
Write down one thing you learned this week in your niche.

Write down one mistake you made and what it taught you.

Write down one opinion you have that most people in your space disagree with.

Pick one. Write 200 words on it. Publish it. That is today's content.

How do I get the first 1000 followers with a Niche of One?

Consistency beats virality. I learned this the hard way: I spent 6 months trying to “go viral” on LinkedIn with hot takes. Got 3 viral posts and zero clients. When I switched to publishing daily in my actual niche and engaging on 10 posts per day — slow growth, but every follower was a real person who read my stuff.

📈 30-Day Niche Launch Plan
Your 30-day niche launch plan:

Week 1: Publish 1 piece of content daily in your niche. Engage on 10 posts daily.

Week 2: Add a lead magnet (checklist or PDF) related to your niche. Link it in your bio.

Week 3: DM 5 people who engaged with your content. Ask them one question about their biggest struggle.

Week 4: Based on those conversations, write one long-form piece that solves the #1 problem they mentioned. Pin it.

Start with the first prompt above. Write down your 3 skills, 3 topics, 3 problems. Find the overlap. That is your niche. Everything else — MVO, content, audience — follows from that single decision.
